Do I Need a Referral for Dry Needling in Jacksonville?
No. Florida law gives patients direct access to chiropractic care, which includes dry needling performed by a licensed chiropractor, without a physician referral. You can call Full Swing Healthcare and book directly.
The One Exception Worth Knowing
While Florida law does not require a referral, some insurance plans do. Specifically, certain HMO plans require all specialist care to be referred through a primary care physician. If you are on a gatekeeper-model HMO and want dry needling covered by insurance, check your plan terms or call us and we will verify your coverage before you come in. PPO plans essentially never require a referral for this.
Workers Comp Is Different
Workers compensation cases require authorization from the managed care organization before treatment begins. That is not a physician referral in the traditional sense, but it functions similarly. If you are treating a work injury through workers comp, call us with your authorization information and we will confirm our participation and schedule accordingly.
Coming in Without a Referral
Most of our dry needling patients come in without any referral at all. They have pain that has not responded to what they have tried, they have heard about dry needling, and they call us directly. The first visit includes a thorough assessment so we understand what is driving the pain before any needles go in. We do not need a physician's opinion to conduct that examination. We form our own clinical conclusions.
