FAQ · Dry Needling

Do I need a referral for dry needling in Jacksonville?

Dry needling treatment at Full Swing Healthcare Jacksonville FL

No referral needed. Florida law gives you direct access to chiropractic care, including dry needling performed by a licensed chiropractor, so you can call Full Swing Healthcare and book an appointment today. Most of our patients in Jacksonville, the Beaches, and Ponte Vedra come in without ever talking to a primary care doctor first.

Direct Access in Florida

Florida is a direct-access state for chiropractic care. That means you do not need a physician’s permission slip to see us, and you do not need one for dry needling either. If you have stubborn muscle pain, a trigger point that won’t release, or an injury that hasn’t responded to rest and stretching, you can pick up the phone and get on our schedule, full stop.

The One Exception Worth Knowing

Florida law doesn’t require a referral, but some insurance plans do. HMO plans with a gatekeeper model sometimes require specialist care to be routed through your primary care physician before coverage kicks in. PPO plans almost never have this requirement. A few things to keep in mind:

  • If you’re on a PPO (Florida Blue, United Healthcare, Humana, Cigna), you almost certainly don’t need a referral for dry needling.
  • If you’re on an HMO, check your plan terms or call us at (904) 539-3352: we’ll verify your coverage before you come in so there are no surprises.
  • Florida Medicaid and VA patients should check their specific plan rules; we’re happy to help you sort it out.

Workers’ Comp Is a Different Process

Workers’ compensation cases require authorization from the managed care organization before treatment starts, not a traditional physician referral, but it functions similarly. If you were hurt on the job and are treating through workers’ comp, call us with your authorization details and we’ll confirm our participation and get you scheduled. See our work injuries page for more on how that works.

What Happens at Your First Visit

The vast majority of our dry needling patients walk in without any referral. They’ve been dealing with pain that hasn’t budged, they’ve heard about dry needling, and they just call us directly. Your first visit includes a thorough clinical assessment, we examine what’s actually driving the pain before any needles go in. We form our own conclusions. We don’t need a physician’s sign-off to do that.

First visit pricing: $115 covers your full exam and initial treatment. Follow-up dry needling visits are $50. Same-day appointments are sometimes available for new patients, call (904) 539-3352 or book online. We’re at 13770 Beach Blvd #4, Jacksonville, FL 32224.
