Which Clinic in Jacksonville Offers Massage Therapy for Back Pain?

We offer massage therapy for back pain at Full Swing Healthcare, and we usually pair it with chiropractic work on the same visit rather than treating them as separate services. The combination produces significantly better results than either alone for most back pain presentations.

What Massage Does for the Back

Massage releases the paraspinal muscle tension that has developed around a joint restriction or in response to sustained posture. It improves circulation to ischemic tissue, addresses the quadratus lumborum and thoracolumbar fascia that manual chiropractic work does not always reach effectively, and reduces the overall guarding pattern that makes some adjustments difficult to perform properly in the early visits.

For patients with primarily muscular back pain, no significant joint restriction, good spinal mechanics, and diffuse tension from occupational posture, massage alone can produce good outcomes. These patients are less common than people expect.

When the Joint is the Real Problem

A patient had been getting monthly massage for back pain for almost two years. The relief lasted three to five days and then the tension returned. She described it as a cycle. Dr. Muren found a chronic L3-L4 facet restriction that was continuously restimulating the paraspinal guarding response. Three chiropractic adjustments combined with focused lumbar massage broke the cycle. She continued massage afterward for maintenance, but the underlying driver had been addressed and the massage became genuinely effective rather than crisis management.

Massage that consistently provides only a few days of relief usually means there is a joint-level driver that is not being addressed.

Adding Dry Needling

For deep paraspinal trigger points that massage cannot fully reach, we add dry needling. The combination of massage for the surface layer, needling for the deep trigger points, and chiropractic for the joint restriction is the most comprehensive approach we have for complex back pain presentations.
