Plenty of people arrive at a Ponte Vedra Beach chiropractor with the same story: the lower back only hurts after a round, so the round must be the problem. It usually is not. A golf swing exposes restrictions that were already there, and the low back is where you feel the bill rather than where the charge was made. Full Swing Healthcare is eighteen minutes up the road, and we treat the whole town, not only the people who play.
Where a golfer’s back pain actually starts
A golf swing asks your body to rotate hard in one direction, hundreds of times a week, and that rotation is supposed to be shared. Your hips supply some. Your thoracic spine, the mid-back your ribs attach to, supplies a lot. Your lumbar spine is built mainly for stability and contributes relatively little rotation by design.
When the hips and mid-back stop giving what they should, the swing still happens. The low back simply absorbs the difference, every single time. Which is why treating the sore spot alone tends to buy about a week: you are treating the place that is complaining, not the place that quit.
What we measure when rotation is the problem
Rotation is a chain, so we measure it segment by segment rather than asking where it hurts and working there.
- How far the hips rotate internally, which governs whether you can turn into the trail hip and clear the lead hip
- How far the thoracic spine rotates with the pelvis held still, which is the honest version of that number
- Whether shoulders and hips can separate at all, or whether they move as one block
- Whether you can hinge and hold it without the low back rounding to compensate
Those numbers tell us where your rotation went, and that is the thing worth treating. See chiropractic adjustments for how we restore motion segment by segment.
“The office is clean and the staff is amazing. Flexibility on scheduling is great, and a plus, the doctor is a golfer.”

The restrictions we find most often in golfers
Ponte Vedra plays a lot of golf, whether your home course is the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, the layout at Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, or a standing weekend game. A few patterns come through the door far more than the rest.
- A trail hip that will not rotate in: the backswing has to come from somewhere, so it comes from the lumbar spine instead
- A locked thoracic spine: usually the desk rather than the game, and the most common restriction we measure
- Lead-side rib and oblique strain: the tissue that pays for a turn the joints could not deliver. See sports injuries
- Lower-back flare after a heavy range session: volume exposing a restriction that eighteen holes hides. See back pain
- Stubborn tendon pain in the elbow or shoulder: often responds to shockwave therapy once the mechanics are handled
Not only golfers
Golf gets its own section here because Ponte Vedra asks about it, not because it is what we do. The clinic runs thirteen treatments and the majority of our patients have never picked up a club. The same rotation and mobility work that helps a golfer is what we use on a warehouse back injury, and the assessment does not change because the cause did.
Most of what we see from this stretch of coast is ordinary and unglamorous: desk necks, disc pain that travels down a leg, shoulders that hurt at night, headaches, pregnancy-related back pain, and people who were rear-ended on A1A and need their PIP handled properly. We also see the second half of the season, when the golfers who ignored the first half arrive. Whatever brought you in, the first visit is the same full exam.
Fitting care around a season of play
If you do play, the scheduling problem is real: the season is when you least want to stop and also when the volume is highest. So we plan around it. Early on we want to see you more often and will ask you to keep range sessions shorter. Once rotation is returning, visits stretch out and the work shifts toward holding it, which is what athletic recovery is for. We schedule until 7pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Self-pay is $115 for your first visit with the exam included and $50 per follow-up. We also accept Florida Blue, United Healthcare, Humana, Cigna, Florida Medicaid and VA benefits.

Ponte Vedra Beach FAQs
Why does my lower back hurt after playing golf?
Usually because your hips and mid-back are not supplying their share of the rotation, so the lumbar spine absorbs it. The lumbar spine is built for stability more than rotation, which is why it protests first. Free up the segments that should be turning and the low back stops taking the load.
Can chiropractic care help my swing, not just my pain?
Restoring rotation you have lost tends to help both, because the same restriction that hurts is the one shortening your turn. We will not promise you strokes. What we can say honestly is that a body that rotates freely swings with less compensation, and compensation is what generates most golf injuries.
Do I have to be an athlete to come here?
Not at all. Most of our patients are not. We treat back and neck pain, disc problems, headaches, shoulder pain, pregnancy-related pain, car accident injuries and work injuries, and the majority of people we see have no sport in the picture at all.
How far is Full Swing Healthcare from TPC Sawgrass?
About eighteen minutes. Take A1A north or JTB west to Beach Boulevard, then inland to 13770 Beach Blvd, Suite 4. Free parking out front and no tolls on the way.
