No referral needed. Florida law gives you direct access to chiropractic care, so you can call Full Swing Healthcare at (904) 539-3352 and book an appointment today without any physician authorization. Most of our patients come in exactly that way.
When Insurance Might Require One
Florida law does not require a referral, but some HMO insurance plans do. If you carry a Florida Blue HMO or a similar gatekeeper-model plan, your insurer may want a referral from your primary care physician before covering a specialist visit. When you call us, just share your insurance carrier and plan type and we will tell you right away whether you need one before we put you on the schedule.
PPO plans almost never require a referral for chiropractic. Most patients on Cigna, United Healthcare, Humana, and Florida Blue PPO plans book directly with no prior authorization needed.
Workers Comp and Auto Accident Cases
Workers compensation cases work a little differently. Before we can bill your workers comp carrier, you need authorization from the employer’s managed care organization or carrier. That is not the same as a physician referral, but the practical effect is similar: approval comes first. We help patients navigate this process regularly, so call us and we will walk you through it.
Auto accident PIP cases do not require a referral. Under Florida PIP law, you can see a chiropractor directly as an initial treating provider. The one rule to know: you must seek care within 14 days of the accident date. Miss that window and your PIP coverage is gone, regardless of referral status or fault.
VA Community Care Benefits
Veterans using VA Community Care Network benefits generally do need a referral from their VA primary care provider before seeing us under those benefits. We work with VA patients regularly and are happy to explain how that process looks before your first visit, so there are no billing surprises on the day you come in.
