Do I Need a Referral to See a Chiropractor in Jacksonville, FL?

No. Florida law gives you direct access to chiropractic care without a physician referral. You can call us and book an appointment without any prior authorization from a doctor. Most of our patients come in this way.

Insurance Plans That Might Require One

While Florida law does not require a referral, some HMO insurance plans do. If you are on a Florida Blue HMO or a similar gatekeeper-model plan, your plan may require a referral from your primary care physician before a specialist visit. We encounter this regularly. When you call us, tell us your insurance carrier and plan type and we will tell you immediately whether a referral is needed before we schedule you.

PPO plans essentially never require a referral for chiropractic. Most Cigna, United Healthcare, Humana, and Florida Blue PPO patients book directly without any prior authorization needed.

Workers Comp and Auto Accident Cases

Workers compensation cases require authorization from the employer's managed care organization or carrier before treatment begins. That is a different requirement from a physician referral, but the practical effect is the same: you need approval before we can bill workers comp. We help patients navigate this process regularly.

Auto accident PIP cases do not require a referral. Florida PIP allows you to see a chiropractor directly as an initial treating provider. The critical rule is the 14-day window from the accident date. Miss that and your PIP coverage is gone regardless of referral status.

VA Community Care

Veterans using VA Community Care Network benefits generally do need a referral from their VA primary care provider to see us under those benefits. We work with VA patients regularly and can help walk through what that process looks like if you are unsure. Call us at (904) 539-3352. 13770 Beach Blvd #4, Jacksonville FL 32224. We sort this out before your first visit so there are no billing surprises.
